Where you’re fishing…. Mullaghmore
Mullaghmore is a small fishing village and popular holiday centre. The sandy beach stretching as far as the eye can see is safe for swimming, windsurfing and water sports, and has sheltered anchorage for small and medium craft at the harbour. This beach has been awarded the Green Coast Award for 2015.
It is also renowned for being a base for licensed angling/passenger boats for charter, sea angling and trips to Inishmurray Island. Walkers can take a nice leisurely stroll along the sea cliffs taking in panoramic views of Sliabh Liag Cliffs in Co. Donegal and crashing waves under Classiebawn Castle with famous Benbulben in the background.
Mullaghmore is also famous for its ‘Prowlers’ – a wave like no other with swells said to be up to 100ft. That’s why Sligo’s Mullaghmore Head hosted Ireland’s first Big Wave contest in 2011, drawing surfers from across the globe. Tow-in-surfing – involving jet skis as well as surfers – is a highly skilled sport and exciting to watch from the headland.
