On behalf of the Irish Federation of Sea Anglers – Welcome all Anglers and friends to Ireland You are here to compete in the World Boat fishing Championships, as your first objective, but this is also a time to renew old friendships, and make new ones.
The fishing here may be different, the fish are larger, but you have all earned a position on a Team to represent your Country, by different selection methods maybe, but you are all Internationals and are about to compete with the best anglers from other Nations.
I want you all to enjoy the best of angling with good catches. We wish you all the best of sport and the best of luck
It is time for those of our guests who may not be taking part in angling to visit some of the most beautiful parts of Ireland, or relax, do nothing. There is much to see, and as organisers we will do our very best to assist in any request that you may have. We want all to experience our famous Irish Hospitality
Pat Walsh, President IFSA
On behalf of the Central Council of The Irish Federation of Sea Anglers, our four Provincial Councils and all of our Clubs and members it gives me very great pleasure to extend to all of you in the Sea Angling community a heartfelt “Cead Mile Failte” (a Hundred Thousand Welcomes) to Ireland and in particular to the Donegal Bay area on the spectacular Wild Atlantic Way. You will be treated to the very warm hospitality of the people of Counties Donegal and Sligo. I have no doubt that your experiences while staying with us during the competition and on your prior visits and training days, will leave you with warm lasting impressions of a welcoming community, spectacular scenery and tremendous sport fishing opportunities.
We in the I.F.S.A. are grateful to Federation Internationale de la Peche Sportive en Mer (F.I.P.S.-M) for the trust they have placed in us by allowing us, on their behalf, to host the 51st. World Championships of Boat Angling. We have called on many people and organisations, locally and nationally to assist us in creating an event which will be memorable for all the right reasons. Two local clubs, Mullaghmore SAC in County Sligo and Bundoran SAC in County Donegal are jointly working on the hosting of the event together with the National Organising Committee and they have assured us that all the local politicians, County Councillors and staff together with Tourism Agencies, businesses and the entire local communities are excited by the opportunity to showcase the unique treasures of the North West.
At sea where the fishing will count, the local Charter Boat fleet and “Skippers”/Captains have been carefully preparing their boats and planning for the best fishing locations to display the wealth of the angling resource and to make it a great competition.
We have been assured of assistance from; Inland Fisheries Ireland, Irish Sports Council, Tourism Ireland and Failte Ireland, together with the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport. With all of these bodies supporting the organisation of this event; trust me, “IT’S GOING TO BE GOOD”.
Thomas J. Lillis Chairman IFSA.
