Apollo are pleased to confirm that legal and financial close has been reached on the Baxter Residential Dialysis Training Centre in Swinton, Salford. This agreement will see Apollo developing a bespoke 5 bedroom residential training centre for Baxter Ltd who are a worldwide business. The new centre is key to delivering specialist training to kidney failure patients in the North West of England. The intention of the training centre is to assist patients in home dialysis thus reducing the need for hospital out patient appointments.

Development lead for the project, Stuart Clarke commented, “Reaching legal close on this project is a fantastic achievement for everyone that has been involved. The  project team are excited to get this opportunity to develop a new type of facility for our client Baxter Healthcare and this demonstrates our commitment to delivering first class health facilities to both public and private sector clients.  It has taken us a little over a year to get to this stage and we are all now looking to forward to making a start on-site with the aim of handing over the completed facility in the New Year“.

Apollo’s Managing Director Rob James said “We were first approached by Baxter just over 12 months ago and in that time the Apollo team has developed a close working relationship and understanding of Baxter’s operational needs. Working with a private sector health provider has been very insightful for the Apollo team and we are very much look forward to growing that relationship in the future. The Swinton scheme demonstrates our ability to be flexible in an ever changing market place and adapting to the ever changing health and clinical needs of the UK”.

The development has been a collaboration between Apollo as development lead, Primary Health Properties as funder and Baxter as tenant. Primary Health Properties will retain the facility as a long term investment.

Apollo are pleased to have worked alongside DGA Architects Ltd, Expedite Project Services Ltd and McCann & Partners Ltd in designing this facility. The new building will be constructed by North Midlands Construction PLC with site activity due to start immediately and the new building handed over to Baxter Healthcare Ltd in the Spring of 2018.

Whitehill & Bordon which is in Hampshire, was last year awarded “Healthy New Town” status following selection by NHSE from a total of 114 competing sites across the country. The Whitehill & Bordon Regeneration company (a joint venture between Dorchester Regeneration and Taylor Wimpey) is now in the process of delivering the New Town, with all the associated housing and infrastructure, and has appointed Apollo to join their team to assist with the development of the Primary Care Health Hub.

The Health Hub will form an important facility in the heart of the town centre and comprise a wide range of Primary Care services including GP led services for the local community and the residents of the 2,400 sustainable new houses under construction.

Apollo is delighted to be given the opportunity to work on this flagship Healthy New Town project alongside the other stakeholders including NHS South Eastern Hampshire CCG, East Hampshire District Council and Hampshire County Council.

On Monday 17^th July, Orchard View, the £7.3 million Inverclyde Adult and Older Peoples Continuing Care Hospital, reached the milestone of Practical Completion and will shortly become operational.

The contemporary healthcare facility is in a prominent location on the Inverclyde Royal Hospital grounds. It will provide adult and older peoples’ continuing care and mental health accommodation with a particular focus on delivering a dementia friendly environment.

There will be 42 beds in total with 30 of these dedicated to continuing care for older people. Facilities include:

• 24 continuing care beds for patients with dementia
• 6 continuing care beds for patients with dementia and co-morbidity conditions
• 12 adult continuing care beds
• Social enterprise space including a cafe and hair-dressers
• Treatment rooms
• Multi-purpose social spaces for male and female patients

More than just a straight replacement of the existing provision, Orchard View will enable fundamental change in the way older peoples care is delivered in Inverclyde. Staff, service users and carers have all been involved in the design of the building to ensure that Orchard View meets both the needs of people living and working there in the future. The Scottish Dementia Development Centre based at Stirling University, an internationally recognised centre of knowledge and expertise on dementia, has had a great deal of input to ensure a dementia friendly environment. Their involvement will continue through both the Service User & Carer Reference Group and input on how the building will operate once it is complete. Wider engagement with the local community has been carried out through the arts and environment strategy, which has been designed to ensure the facility is very much part of the local community.

The new Centre was delivered in partnership with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) through its Development Partner hub West Scotland. Apollo is a joint venture partner, shareholder in hub West Scotland, and delivers specialist development and procurement services on health and social care projects; alongside equity investment. Apollo Capital Projects Developments’ proposal to develop state-of-the-art kidney dialysis education centre in Manchester has reached a step closer having been given the green light this month by Council Planners.

The new kidney dialysis education centre will be developed for Baxter Healthcare Ltd. The new centre will enable kidney dialysis patients to be taught how to provide kidney dialysis within a domestic setting, as opposed to the traditional process of having to take regular journeys to hospital for dialysis treatment.

The new facility will provide a mix of training rooms, administration and support accommodation as well as bedrooms for patients that will become residents throughout the course of their dialysis training.

“We are extremely pleased to be working with Baxter Healthcare, which aligns closely to our core health care schemes. The new facility will improve health outcomes for many patients requiring kidney dialysis throughout the north of the UK” says Rob James, Managing Director of Apollo Capital Projects Developments. “It’s been a great collaborative effort with Baxter Healthcare to get the project through planning and we are now looking forward to starting construction and bringing the project to life.”

Construction work is due to start in the autumn with completion due in early 2018.

A major milestone in the construction of the new Gorbals Health and Care Centre took place today when the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing, Shona Robison MSP, cut the first sod at a special ceremony.

This project represents a significant investment in the area with a cost of just over £17 million and will provide a wide range of benefits for the community it serves. This includes the transfer of four General Practices, one Dental Practice and other primary and community care services from the current health centre, as well as the introduction of other services, including specialist children’s services, community addictions services and social work services.

The new Centre is being delivered in partnership with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC), Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) and Glasgow City Council through their development partner hub West Scotland. Apollo is a joint venture partner, shareholder in hub West Scotland, and delivers specialist development and procurement services on health and social care projects, alongside equity investment. Johnny Dryburgh, Chief Executive of Apollo, was present in his capacity as a Director of Hub West Scotland. Johnny commented: “This building is a fantastic example of collaboration and joint delivery between two significant public bodies: Glasgow City Council and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and I am proud that hub West Scotland has had the opportunity to lead the design and development of high quality facilities that will support the innovative delivery of co-located public services.”

This new building provides an opportunity to reshape services from a patient and service user perspective with care that is more integrated, accessible and efficient.

Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing, Shona Robison MSP, said: “I’m delighted to be here today to take part in the sod-cutting ceremony for this fantastic new development.

“I am very pleased that this new Health Centre will provide the modern facilities and equipment that people expect of a first class, 21st century health service. I am confident that everyone who works in this new facility, and all the patients who pass through its doors in the years ahead, will benefit greatly as a result.

“Investment in health services continues to be a top priority for the Scottish Government. Indeed, these facilities are just one of many being completed across Scotland, including in Glasgow, all of which demonstrate not just our continued commitment to investment in health, but to capital investment generally.”

The site itself is very well situated, being just a short distance away from the current health centre and social work offices which is incredibly fortunate as there should be minimal impact or additional travel time for people who use those services.

The centre will also house a series of digital portraits hung throughout the building, almost like a gallery. The art strategy group, which engages with local people and staff for creative input, has already captured 500 photo portraits of local people and staff which will be on display in the new centre as part of the art work.

The Apollo team will be exhibiting again next week on 28^th and 29^th June at Europe’s largest integrated health and social care event. The 2-day event will focus on all matters relating to the healthcare market with specific focus on new models of care, STP’s and the emerging ACS’s integrating care at a local level. This excellent event has proved a great success for Apollo in the past, meeting many colleagues, both new and old.

The Woodside Health and Care Centre, which is being delivered jointly with Gorbals Health and Care Centre, is a new primary care facility which will integrate both Social Work as well as Health services. The building work commenced in April this year with practical completion due in autumn 2018.

The 6730m2 Woodside Health and Care Centre, which is replacing an existing NHS Health Centre, will be located on Doncaster Street. The £20m development will provide the local community with access to GP surgeries, physiotherapy, adult services, the older people’s team and other community services.

The Gorbals Health and Care Centre on Sandiefield road will be a new 6500m2 development giving a host of vital services to the local community. It will provide GP accomodation as well as social services and community services.

The new Centres are being delivered as a partnership with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC), Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP), Glasgow City Council through Development Partner Hub West Scotland. Apollo is a joint venture partner, shareholder in hub West Scotland, and delivers specialist development and procurement services on health and social care projects; alongside equity investment.

As founding joint venture partner in Wellspring (the private sector development partner of hub); Apollo is supporting hub West Scotland (hWS), with specialist input to primary healthcare premises; with Maryhill Health & Care Centre being one of these supported projects.

The 4,447m2 Health & Care Centre went live to the public on 19th September 2016. The new Centre offers the Maryhill community access to a wide range of health and social care services, now under the one roof for the first time. As part of the Scottish public/private hub programme, through the hub West Scotland territory; it was jointly delivered along with the Eastwood Health & Care Centre, as a single bundle of c. £27m. These two Projects along with the East Pollokshields Centre, ‘The Shields Centre’ completed in January 2015; are the beginning of an NHSGGC Health & Social Care strategy to serve the NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde community, which includes the former area of NHS Argyle & Clyde. These projects underpin NHS Scotland’s ‘Once for Scotland’ approach to shared Health and Social Care Services.

The £12.4m centre is in the heart of a built-up urban area of Maryhill, formed by an island of four existing roads, including a prominent presence to Kelvindale Road and main entrance off Gairbraid Avenue. The challenging topography was formerly a Glasgow City Council School which closed in the 1980’s, having commenced its life as the 3-Storey sandstone-built Gairbraid Pubic School in 1898.

The challenging topography was also challenged by the limited urban site area which benefited from partial road closures of Balfour Street and Burnhouse Street, to ‘steal’ space for the Development, forming one-way streets and a structure with a vertical presence. To Kelvindale Road the 4-Storeys are accentuated by a taller top floor which houses ‘Agile Working’ Offices for clinical support staff; while the entrance at the top of the hill presents 3-Storeys. The zinc surround to the East facing curtain walling, which sits on a podium of mature-looking red brickwork, has affectionately become known as the ‘TV’ screen.

By the urban nature of the design, focus has been more inward in comparison to the ‘Park’ setting of the Eastwood Health & Care Centre; with a full height atrium running through the length of the Building, to flood the centre with natural light. Additionally, in recognition of the urban massing, an active programme of Art Projects had been progressed to enhance the inward focus, with more than a dozen pieces. These have ranged in nature from ceiling and wall hanging to incorporation within Reception Desk, Walls and Floors.

A date for the Official Opening is yet to be advised and no doubt dependent upon the diaries of officials, in these busy political times. Hopefully the contrasting delight of the Centre relative to its counterpart at Eastwood will be equally appreciated.

Apollo’s recently completed Two Rivers Medical Centre, located in Ipswich has been awarded a commendation by the Ipswich Society for its contribution to the Ipswich townscape following an awards ceremony held in Ipswich.

The Ipswich Society hosts the annual awards ceremony where the Society recognises the best commercial and residential projects delivered in the town over the previous year. A total of twenty one projects were put forward for nomination as part of the 2016 awards and the Two Rivers Medical Centre was commended highly by the judging panel.

The £6m facility which was opened in July 2016 incorporates a mix of GP clinical facilities, a specialist GP and nurse training seminar suite and an integrated pharmacy. The facility, now fully operational, provides primary care services to over 25,000 patients.

Apollo were responsible for the development, its primary role included assisting its GP clients through the NHS approvals process, acquiring land in which to develop the facility, management of the project team which designed and constructed the facility in addition to providing project finance.

The Two Rivers Medical Centre is one of many bespoke primary care facilities currently being developed nationally by Apollo for public and private sector partners, including GPs and CCGs.
