Maryhill Health & Care Centre, Glasgow
Client Objectives
The purpose of this project has always been much more than the simple replacement of the existing facility and services. This development provides an opportunity to support integration to enable and facilitate fundamental change in the way in which health and social care is delivered to the people of Maryhill.
The underlying principle is to tackle health inequalities by improving the delivery of health and social services that are shaped around the needs of patients through the development of partnerships and co-operation between patients’ their carers and families.
Development Solution
- Work began on the new £12.4 million Health and Social Care Centre in Maryhill in December 2014 and is on, target to be completed by Spring 2016
- The new facility delivered in partnership between NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and HUB West Scotland, designed by award winning architects Archial Norr, and constructed by Morgan Sindall, is located in a prominent location in the heart of Maryhill Town Centre providing a modern, state of the art health care facility fit for the 21st Century.
- This new centre provides improved access to a range of Primary Care Services including three GP Practices, physiotherapy, podiatry, community dental services, district nursing, health visitors, sexual health services and health improvement teams offering smoking cessation support and youth health services. The lower ground floor will be dedicated wholly to an Adult Mental Health Facility
- The centre will also incorporate an arts and environment strategy “Waken into Falling Light” – the overall aim is to develop opportunities to enhance both the external and internal aspects of the campus to increase wellbeing, improve peoples’ experience of visiting the centre and to engender a sense of community ownership of the building and its environment.
