A state-of-the-art, super-green medical centre in Cardiff is in the running for a major ‘green’ building award.

The Cloughmore Medical Centre has been shortlisted for the BREEAM Awards 2015 which celebrate the most sustainable buildings in the UK and internationally.

The Cloughmore Medical Centre is one of Wales’ most energy-efficient health premises with a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating and features including stack ventilation, natural cooling and rooftop solar panels which provide up to half of its electricity.

The developer for the scheme was national primary healthcare premises developer Apollo Capital Projects Developments.

Apollo Capital Projects Developments Managing Director Rob James says: “We’re thrilled that the superb sustainability and energy-efficiency credentials of the Cloughmore Medical Centre have been recognised by BREEAM. The aim of the project was to provide both a state-of-the-art modern medical centre and a high-quality, landmark building which would enhance the local area and benefit the community.”

BREEAM is the world’s leading and most widely-used environmental assessment method for buildings. The BREEAM Awards 2015 will be announced on Tuesday, 3 March 2015, in a ceremony at The London Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square.

As well as being shortlisted as the best Healthcare building, the Cloughmore Medical Centre is shortlisted for the Your BREEAM Award which is decided by votes cast by readers of the Building4change.com website (voting closes Monday, 12 February). You can vote for Cloughmore here.
