The Farrow Medical Centre is complete
The waiting is over for the Practice, their patients and the local community; the replacement Farrow Medical Centre building in Bradford is now complete and will shortly be opening to the public.
The two storey building is located immediately adjacent to the existing surgery fronting the busy Otley Road and its development has transformed a previously redundant and unused site. Much greater accessibility is provided to the new surgery with road and path improvements and a large exclusive car park to the rear.
This development is the third surgery building for the Farrow Medical Centre who have served the local community for over 60 years. This time around the practice will be joined in the building by the Farrow Pharmacy offering extended hours and a comprehensive health care service.
The building, being three times larger than the old surgery, offers so much more clinical space than before with 9 consulting rooms, a counselling room, a treatment/minor operations room and a large multi-purpose room suitable for a variety of clinical and non-clinical uses. Patients will have access to both floors of the building, each with its own waiting area and facilities. The practice will enjoy a dedicated meeting room for the first time along with plentiful accommodation for administration.
Environmentally the building has an excellent BREEAM rating for energy efficiency, benefitting from photovoltaic roof mounted panels, partial under floor heating and light sensors, all of which will contribute towards reducing operating costs for the Practice. As required by the Practice, the building has been designed to be capable of extending at first floor level in future.
Patients in both waiting areas can enjoy a superb piece of artwork which is prominently displayed on a double height waiting room wall; this artwork was originally commissioned for the old surgery and has been donated by the doctors to provide a welcoming and familiar scene to all who visit the new building.
Dr Wendy Leedham (GP Partner) ? Farrow Medical Centre said:
“ the practice team is very excited to be moving in to our attractive new building. Our thanks to Apollo for providing such a high quality, well designed building which we feel sure will enable us to provide quality primary care services for our patients and the local community. We are particularly impressed with the eco-friendly features of the building and the high quality finish. The new medical centre has an outstanding profile on the main Otley Road and has been designed internally to provide an excellent working environment for our team. We particularly appreciate Apollo’s attention to detail which makes all the difference between a purely functional and a very attractive building. “
Fiona Reid, the Practice Manager said:
“The practice selected Apollo as developer’s for our new premises based on the high quality and individual design element of their buildings and we haven’t been disappointed. Our new medical centre is as attractive as it is functional. The building has been tailored to support the way that we deliver primary care services and Apollo were very responsive to our requirements; specifically the space to provide open access for our patients and the desire to avoid ? as is common in many new surgery buildings ? isolated working. We now have an impressive building which has cleverly maximised natural light and promotes a feeling of spaciousness. The new medical centre enables Farrow Medical Centre & now also Farrow Pharmacy to continue the 60 year legacy originally founded by Dr Stefan Farrow of providing quality, patient focussed healthcare in the Otley Road area of Bradford.”
Richard Drew, the Apollo Development Director and project lead said:
“I am delighted with the building; it answers all the needs of the practice and provides them with the future flexibility they sought on day one. The building will enable the practice and the new pharmacy to thrive over many years to come.”
